Mary McKenna is excited to announce her candidacy for Platte County Presiding Commissioner, dedicated to ensuring that every resident has a voice and proper representation.

With a lifetime of experience in the communications industry, Mary excels at connecting with people and have consistently been an advocate for our community. If elected, Mary will work alongside the communities to preserve and enhance one of the most cherished regions in the Show-Me State.

Having proudly called Platte County home for over 40 years, Mary is deeply committed to serving as your Presiding Commissioner. Her emphasis will be on accountability and transparency, not just fighting for my family and friends, but for every citizen in our county.

As one of Missouri’s fastest-growing counties, it is vital that we keep pace with our remarkable expansion. This challenge won’t be easy, but Mary firmly believes we can overcome together by fostering integrity and moving beyond divisive partisan politics. Collaboration with my fellow commission members will be essential as we work to maintain our infrastructure and ensure robust support for our law enforcement agencies.

The Issues

Honoring Your Vote

When you vote for something, it should happen.

Platte County voters approved a sales tax to fund children's mental health services. The County Commission found a legal reading of the statute that let it decline to implement the tax anyway. Voters sued. In April 2026, an appeals court sided with the commission on the legal question, not on whether the tax was a good idea, just on whether the commission was allowed to say no. It was allowed to. That is a problem.

Ensuring a fair system of taxation is vital to reducing the cost of living,

Mary understands that the cost of everything is rising. While in office, Mary will be laser focused on reducing the cost of living, while still providing the county's basic services. She will work with the county's state delegation in order to craft a property tax structure that is fair for all residents of Platte County. The County doesn't need to increase your tax burden to lower the tax burden of wealthy developers in order to grow.

Growth that Doesn't Leave Residents Behind

When Platte County grows, residents should see benefits.

As one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Missouri, Platte County needs to invest in its infrastructure, especially roads and bridges. Maintaining these arteries of our communities keeps us connected to each other and the larger economy. Mary pledges to bring the basics back to county government and fund these vital resources. Platte County residents deserve transparency and a say in all future developments.
